How to split a CSV file online

  1. 1

Set how many data rows each file should contain, for example 1000.

  2. 2

Upload the CSV file. It is split right away in your browser.

  3. 3

Pick a part from the list to preview it. Every part starts with the original header row.

  4. 4

Example: splitting a file into parts of 2 rows

employees.csv

id,name,city
1,Emma,Seattle
2,Liam,Austin
3,Olivia,Chicago

employees_1.csv and employees_2.csv

id,name,city
1,Emma,Seattle
2,Liam,Austin

id,name,city
3,Olivia,Chicago

Tips for splitting CSV files

Import limits

Many CRMs, email tools and databases limit how many rows one import can have. Set the row count to that limit and import the parts one by one.

Excel's row limit

Excel opens at most 1,048,576 rows. Split larger files into parts below that size to open them completely.

Line breaks inside cells

Quoted values that contain line breaks count as one row, so records are never cut in half.

Ordered file names

Parts are numbered with leading zeros, such as data_01.csv, so they sort in the right order.

CSV Splitter FAQ

Is the CSV splitter free?

Yes. It is free with no sign-up.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The file is split in your browser and never leaves your computer.

How large can the file be?

Files of several hundred megabytes usually work. The limit depends on the memory available in your browser.

Is the header row repeated?

Yes. Every part starts with the header row, so each file can be opened or imported on its own.

Does it work with semicolon or tab separated files?

Yes. The delimiter is detected automatically and kept in the output as standard comma-separated CSV.
