Tips for converting CSV to TSV

No more quoting

Commas inside values do not need quotes in TSV, so "Smith, John" becomes plain Smith, John.

Paste into spreadsheets

Google Sheets and Excel split pasted tab-separated text into columns automatically. Copy the result and paste it into a cell.

Command line tools

Tools like cut, awk and many bioinformatics programs expect tab-separated input.

Line breaks in cells

Values that contain line breaks or tabs stay quoted, so the structure of the table is preserved.
