How to convert a Markdown table to CSV

Tips for converting Markdown tables

Escaped pipes

A \| inside a cell is read as a literal | character and does not start a new column.

Line breaks

<br> tags in cells become real line breaks in the CSV value.

Alignment colons

Alignment markers such as :--- and ---: in the separator row are understood and ignored.

Outer pipes are optional

Tables written without leading and trailing | characters are recognized too.
